First find your PC’s audio settings:

  1. Select Start > Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, select Hardware and Sound.
  3. Select Sound.
  4. Alternatively, if your Control Panel is in the Classic View, double-click Sound.
  5. The Sound screen is displayed.

Second, change your PC’s playback options:

  1.  In the Playback tab of the Sound screen, select the recording device you use while creating a movie - either the Speakers or Headphones.
  2. The Speakers or Headphones should have a tick beside it. If not, set it as your default by selecting Set Default.
  3. Select Properties.
  4.  In the Speakers Properties screen, ensure Use this device (enable) is selected in the Devise usage drop-down list.
  5. Select the Levels tab.
  6. Ensure that the Speakers volume is high enough and make sure it’s not muted.
  7. Ensure that the Microphone volume is muted and select OK.

Third, change you PC’s recording options:

  1. In the Sound screen, select the Recording tab.
  2. Select the recording device that you selected above, either Headphones or Speakers.  It should have a tick on it.  It if doesn’t, set it as your default by selecting Set Default.
  3.  Selecting Properties.
  4. In the Microphone Properties screen, ensure Use this device (enable) is selected in the Device usage drop-down list.
  5. Select the Custom tab.
  6. Ensure that the Microphone Boost box is unchecked and select OK.
  7. Select the Levels tab.
  8. Ensure that the Microphone volume is set to maximum and select OK.
  9. Make a test video on an Exercise page to check your microphone.

If you have having problems with the microphone, select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Sound Recorder to display the Sound Recorder.  Try to record your speech through your microphone, then play it back.  If you can’t hear what you recorded, re-display the Sound screen and play with the microphone settings until the recording test works.  If you can't hear your recording, then make sure your settings in ApprenNet are correct (see Why doesn't my Submission have any sound?).
