A 1on1 (1:1) culture that values learning translates directly to greater employee loyalty and growth potential. 1on1s are not just manager-employee meetings—they redefine the employee review process and strengthen relationships for further employee development.

 

Timeline dates are based on the number of days before or after the date you roll out the 1on1 Culture initiative to your company. For instance, T-1 represents one day before your launch date, while T+7 represents seven days after your launch date.

Setup

T-14 Upload [Spreadsheet] Conversation Starters

Prep time average: 30 minutes

 

At the account level, you can provide topics and questions that can be used as discussion prompts in 1on1 sessions. Topics organize questions in your account’s question bank.

 

For topic and question ideas, refer to the 1on1 Conversation Starters spreadsheet. You can download the spreadsheet as a CSV file and upload it directly into your Bridge Settings page. However, you can also add topics and add questions individually.

 

T-14 Set Bridge Admin 1on1 Settings

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

In the Admin Menu, locate the Account Management tab and select the 1on1 link. In this page you can manage all 1on1 settings for your company.

 

T-7 Customize [Course Library] 1on1s and the Manager Role

Prep time average: 20 minutes

 

Download the 1on1s and the Manager Role Library Course and upload it as a course package into your Bridge account. You’re welcome to review this course before publishing, but it’s all ready to go! This course teaches your managers how to lead effective 1on1 conversations with their employees.

 

Enroll all managers in the Bridge course.

 

T-7 Customize [Course Library] 1on1s and the Employee Role

Prep time average: 20 minutes

 

Download the 1on1s and the Employee Role Library Course and upload it as a course package into your Bridge account. This course teaches all employees how to take responsibility for their 1on1 conversations with their manager.

 

Enroll all employees in the Bridge course.

Rollout

T-0 Publish [Course Library] 1on1 Courses

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Publish both Bridge courses for your managers and employees. Each employee will receive an email notification about how to view and complete the course. Managers will also receive an email notification about the Manager role course.

 

T-0 Distribute [Email] Introduction to 1on1s

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Introduce your employees to 1on1s with the Introduction to 1on1s email. All employees should have received an invitation to one or both Bridge courses, but just in case, create a public link to both Bridge courses and include them in the email.

Followup

T+21 Distribute [Email] Manager 1on1 Followup

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Use the Manager 1on1 Followup email to see how your managers did with their first 1on1s, and give them additional feedback for best practices and ideas for upcoming 1on1s with their employees.

 

T+60 Encourage Continuous Culture Adoption

Prep time average: variable*

 

Using your 1on1 Cadence report in the Insights page and the latest Engagement Survey results, continue to encourage adoption throughout your company:

  • Where are the painpoints in your company?
  • Which departments have not adopted frequent 1on1s? How can you find out more about their lack of adoption? How can you help?
  • How do employees feel about 1on1s? Is the frequency too much or too little?

 

You may consider adding some additional questions to your Engagement Survey for feedback about 1on1 culture adoption.

Based on your company’s needs and data, you may need some optional followup training in your company.

 

Need help getting started? Data points start telling a story of management across your organization. Also rely on information from your Engagement Survey results.

 

You may consider designing a Bridge program or planning live trainings based on the needs of your company and managers:

  • New manager trainings
  • Manager mentoring sessions
  • Quarterly manager workshops or webinars
