This document is part of Step 6: Career Basecamp in the Bridge Playbook.

Kickstart career development for everyone in your company by helping them define what their career aspirations are and build a career development plan to progress in that direction.

 

Timeline dates are based on the number of days before or after the date you launch this step. For instance, T-1 represents one day before your launch date, while T+7 represents seven days after your launch date.

Setup

T-15 Customize [Course Library] Helping Employees Develop Career Plans

Prep time average: 20 minutes

 

Download the Helping Employees Develop Career Plans Library Course and upload it as a course package into your Bridge account. This course specifically teaches managers how to help employees develop their career plans.

 

Enroll all managers in the Bridge course.

 

T-15 Publish [Course Library] Helping Employees Develop Career Plans

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Publish the Bridge course for your managers. Managers will receive an email notification about the Manager role course.

 

T-14 Prepare [Print Assets] Posters and Stickers for Distribution

Prep time average: variable*

 

Download the poster and sticker Basecamp assets. Depending on your office’s printing capabilities, you may want to outsource printing of these assets.

  • If outsourcing, ensure you have enough time for printing to have posters to you at least five days in advance of your rollout date.
  • Stickers are not needed until the first day of your rollout date.

 

T-10 Prep Executive Endorsement

Prep time average: 30 minutes

 

The first step is giving your executives an opportunity to endorse the company’s efforts to build a better career development culture. Emphasizing how this plan supports the company’s vision and goals for the future is critical to creating a healthy culture for employees and managers to have meaningful conversations about career development.

 

The executive endorsement can be shared through an email or a meeting. If your company is having an all-hands meeting or some sort of similar event where all employees are together. Otherwise, identify an executive to draft an email message to employees about the vision of incorporating career development at your organization.

 

T-10 Customize [Course Library] I Own It—Driving Your Career

Prep time average: 20 minutes

 

Download the I Own It—Driving Your Career Library Course and upload it as a course package into your Bridge account. This course introduces all employees about career development and how to create a career plan.

 

Enroll all employees in the Bridge course.

 

T-7 Publish [Course Library] I Own It—Driving Your Career

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Publish Bridge course for all employees. Each employee will receive an email notification about how to view and complete the course.

T-7 Distribute [Email] Introduction to Career Basecamp

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Prepare your company about career growth with the Introduction to Career Basecamp (Basic) email. All employees should have received an invitation to the Bridge course, but just in case, create a public link to the Bridge course and include it in the email.

 

If needed, include the executive endorsement message in the email as well.

 

T-5 Post Posters throughout Office

Prep time average: 20 minutes*

 

Post your posters throughout your office to notify employees that career growth opportunities are coming with the Basecamp program.

 

Depending on the size of your office, this task may take more or less time than the noted average.

Rollout

T+0–7 Host [Workshop] Team Career Development Activities

Participation time average: variable*

 

Team career development activities are here! Your employees will appreciate hands-on training and discussion regarding career development based on activities they choose.

Followup

T+8 Distribute [Email] Career Basecamp Followup

Prep time average: 10 minutes

 

Post training, use the Career Growth Followup email to remind everyone about the Basecamp activities and next steps to stay focused on career growth. You may want to customize this email to include upcoming any planned activities and live training sessions that will help employees with career growth.

 

T+21 Encourage Continuous Career Growth

Prep time average: variable*

 

Using your latest Engagement Survey results, performance conversations analytics, and participation in Bridge courses and Basecamp activities, continue to encourage career growth throughout your company:

  • Where are the pain points in your company?
  • Which departments have struggled to complete Basecamp activities? How can you help?
  • How do employees feel about Basecamp activities and their career growth opportunities?
  • What Bridge courses can you create to help employees with career growth? Or could you consider using a Bridge integration such as LinkedIn to find pre-created courses and promoting them to employees?

 

You may consider adding some additional questions to your Engagement Survey for feedback about performance conversation culture adoption.
