How do I set up and use Bridge Advanced Video?

BAV has an organization system that we refer to as “containers.” This is a folder system, and there is no limit to the number of sub-containers that can be used in a container.

When your BAV instance is created in Bridge, two containers will be auto-created: a Home container and a Shared container. Anything in the Home container can only be viewed by a user from the root account. If you plan to affiliate courses to your other subaccounts, the BAV content should be in your Shared container (or users in the sub-account will get an error when trying to access the course content). If you do have sub-accounts, there can be Home and Shared containers for those accounts, as well.

While you can upload content directly to BAV from the Author view in the course editor, we suggest you make most of your updates from the Admin view of BAV.

When you use a BAV resource in a new course, Bridge will create a course-level container.

These containers, nested in the Home container, will mention an “LTI Context Container” and they should NOT be deleted or they will impact the availability of the resource within the course. If the resource was originally uploaded to another container through your own organization system, the resource will also remain in that other container.

Upload thumbnails to resources for a customized look and feel for your container.

If you want to curate the look of your container even more you can upload a specific screenshot to each resource to have a thumbnail of your choice. Select the three dots on the resource you want to update and select Manage.

You’ll be presented with this screen:

Select Upload under Upload Custom Screenshot to upload a specific image for the thumbnail.

Select Save under Language to save the new thumbnail.

Organize your content in a specific order.

Content is ordered by what was uploaded most recently. But you have the ability to change the order and reorganize the content in a way you want.

In order to reorganize, change the view to the list view. From the list view you can drag and drop resources into the order you want.

You can organize your content here and have users view content in a playlist view in a  course so they view all the content in a container in a specific order.

SIDE NOTE. If you do not see the option to reorganize content, you may need to ask Bridge Support (through the in-app chat or support@bridgeapp.com) to update your permissions.

Reupload content from the “Manage” page so it updates your content everywhere in one place.

If you need to update a resource that is being used across multiple courses, you can reupload the resource in BAV and the updates will be seen anywhere the content is in use. You don’t have to update the resource in each individual course.

Select the three dots in the bottom right of a resource you want to update and select Manage.

Select Reupload and select the blue Select Resource button. Choose the updated resource from your computer.

Select Start Upload. The upload will process and automatically upload the resource when it’s done.

Make sure you update any chapters or captions if you uploaded a new video.

Use Referencing to reduce the amount of duplicate videos.

This feature allows you to reference a video in another container. This means it does not create a duplicate video, it simply gives access to a resource from one container into another.

This will help keep the amount of content you have in your instance to a minimum and allows you to update content across the platform more easily.

In order to access Referencing reach out to your CSM or Support to turn on the Media References feature

Select the container you want to pull the reference into, not the one with the video in it.

Select the plus icon in the bottom right hand side of the page. Select Copy from Library. From here, select the container that has the resource you need by selecting the plus option next to the container title.

Select the purple Reference button to pull that resource into the container and the video will start to upload into the container.

You cannot edit the resource from the container it is referenced in. You also cannot make a reference of a reference. Only can make one from the original resource.

Content does not need to be available for reference. You can change this from the resource Manage page.

Upload additional file types to create a central hub of resources for your users.

You have the option to upload any other file type onto the platform that will be available for download to your users.

Our file hosting feature was designed to allow document types common within business, education and technology to be placed alongside video and e-learning content expanding the ways information can be shared.

Select the plus icon on the bottom right and select Upload Resource

Select Other Files to upload any other file to be available for download for your users.

We would recommend putting in the description what the file is about and that the file will begin downloading once you select it. This way users will know what the resource is all about.

All of our BAV best practices can be found here.

If you are interested in building out a resource library in BAV for your Bridge users (like your Learning Library but for non-enrollable and moment-of-need content), click here.

BAV also has the ability to create public-facing portals for users to access without a Bridge license (you can learn more about those use cases here).
