Move Content from Root to Sub Account Answered

Trip Sood

Has anyone moved training content (SCORMS) from the Root Account to a Sub Account.

This would be so that I can set up System Administrators for the Sub Account and not the Root Account.

All content was initially loaded in the Root and then Shared - however we do not want to give Admin access to the Root Account. Would appreciate your thoughts and feedback - Thanks

Hi, Trip Sood. I can understand wanting to limit who has account admin access in the root account. What kind of things do you want the subaccount admins to be able to do with these SCORM courses in the subaccount? How do you want learners to access these courses? Do you have any specific questions about this that we can help answer? An open-ended conversation about subaccounts, content, and users is perfectly fine but I want to make sure we are getting any specific questions you have answered as well.

    HI Adam

    Thanks for the reply.

The Sub Account Admins would need to be able to upload any new SCORM files for existing courses, can they do this if they do not have access to the root account where the course originated ?

Hi Trip Sood. If the learning item was originally created in the root account and shared with a subaccount, the item cannot be edited in the subaccount by a subaccount admin. If the learning item is created in the subaccount, it should be able to be edited by subaccount admins. There's more information in, What are Bridge SubAccounts.

Thats what i suspected Adam, hence i wanted to know if anyone has migrated the courses from the root to a sub Account and how they managed it.

Just thinking what the best and streamlined process would be.

Copy Course from Root to Sub

    Archive Courses in Root

Activate the course in the Sub

I dont want lots of duplicate courses as the names will be same, tricky one - thank you for your advise

I want to make sure I understand this conversation, as I've been away from course creation for a few months and will need to add courses to a new sub-account soon. Am I hearing that it's impossible to COPY a course from one Sub-account to another Sub?? I really would need to do just that.

    Sandra Molinari,

We only have one sub-account and we barely use it, but you can transfer content from one to another, just not with a simple "copy" button. For SCORM content I can't find a way to export the SCORM file itself, so you will need to upload a copy of the original file that was put into Bridge. For any native Bridge course, open the course and click the "more" menu (3 dots). From there, click "Export" and you will get a .json file. This file can then be loaded into your sub-account. The settings will not stick so you will have to create the appropriate settings, but the course content should match.

    Kindly,

    Amy
