When issues are happening with they system I.e down time, updates etc... Redirect users to a landing page informing them that there is a known issue and it is being addresses or something similar.

My request is more for the individuals accessing the site to take the training, not necessarily the admins. As an admin I am being informed of the outage; However the trainees are not. They access the site by clicking on the URL and when the site is down they contact their known support help (I.e myself or others), they don't necessarily know that Instructure houses and maintains the system or how to access the status page at Bridge Status .
A redirect landing page (or banner) would inform them of it being a known issue with out the need for the trainees to check a separate web page.
