Are certain types of fields from my CSV file unavailable when creating rules for Smart Groups?

Some of the fields from my CSV file are missing in the field menu when adding rules to smart groups.  For example, my CSV file contains a "First Name" field, but it's not displayed in the drop-down menu.  I see the majority of fields from my CSV file in the menu, but several others are missing.
