Can I log external training that employees complete outside of Bridge?

If your learners are taking external training that you would like to register in Bridge, you can create shell courses as placeholders to track those completions so that they will show up on your learners’ transcripts.

You’ll want to start by creating the course shell. Remember to name it something that will prove valuable when pulling a transcript report.

In this example, our learners can get First Aid certified for one year through the American Red Cross. Learners can pick their own attendance through the American Red Cross website, and the training is done off-site.

We have created the shell course called “First Aid - One Year” and we’ve turned off the due date and turned on the expiration for 365 days. It is not set to auto re-enroll because the learner will not re-enroll in this course through Bridge (click here for more best practices on enrollment behaviors).

We are going to import the following via CSV for historical completions:

UID Score
Completion Date Inactive
james.learner@getbridge.com
80
11/1/21 T
james.learner@getbridge.com
80
11/1/22
stephanie.learner@getbridge.com
90 12/2/22
james.manager@getbridge.com
100 3/9/23

SIDENOTE: Inactive enrollments are enrollments that should not follow the course rules. In this case, James Learner has taken CPR twice in our import. The oldest completion should be inactive. The most recent completion is active, and active completions do not require any value in that field. Importing two enrollments as active for the same UID will cause complications, so please double check this information before doing an import.

We recommend turning OFF notifications and then add learners via CSV to the course.

Pull the appropriate pills to the column headers. Because we set the course up for the expiration rules, we did not import an expiration date. The import will follow the rules.

When going back into the course, we can now see these registered completions.

We can go into Analytics and filter for the learnable title of the course and see completions for all time.

Another option, if you ever want to easily find external trainings in one location and pull course status for all external trainings in Analytics, would be to use a category for backend management and reporting.

Go to Admin > Manage Categories and create a new category. We are calling this “external training.”

When in the category, we can add any content to the category.

The only way that this category could be exposed to learners is through the “groups” tab and setting learner relevance to all learners or a group for visibility in the Learning Library. We do not want this exposed, so we are not making any adjustments to those settings.

This now allows us to manage the external training in one place in the backend, and we can also run a report off of the category.

Since James Learner has completed the training, he will also see the completion on his My Learning page under completed (if you want a cover slide to appear, you will want to add this when creating the shell course).

Likewise, the completion would appear on his transcript when doing an export.
