Live training steps in programs

Hi Bridge Community,

For those of you who have built programs with live training steps included in them, I'm curious to hear how you're handling those - specifically if you have due dates set on the individual steps of the program, rather than the program itself.

We currently have a large program in Bridge (about 20 steps) that includes three live training courses. We have the program configured so that each step must be taken in order. Because of the program's length, we have the due dates set on the individual steps rather than the program itself (to help keep learners moving through the program). Because there's not the ability to set due dates on live training courses, we found that many learners were getting stuck at the live training steps and not being reminded by Bridge that they were overdue on them.

We decided to see if removing the live training sessions from the program would help. They are still required for learners to take, but we're using checkpoints in their place in the program instead. One checkpoint is at the beginning of the program and includes registration links for the three live training courses. Learners mark themselves complete for the checkpoint after registering for sessions of each live training course. The other is toward the end of the program and asks learners to submit the checkpoint once they've attended a session of all three live training courses. This checkpoint is configured to have my team approve it. We are verifying that each learner has attended all three live training courses before we mark it complete.

The issue now is that many learners are submitting the attendance verification checkpoint without having actually completed the live training sessions. From learner feedback we've gathered, the main reasons this is occurring appear to be 1) because learners aren't fully clear on the reason for the checkpoint or 2) are concerned about being overdue for the checkpoint and thinking that submitting it will prevent them from showing as overdue.

We've been brainstorming ways we can tweak this approach to make it a more user-friendly experience while also accomplishing what we want to accomplish: allowing learners to move through the e-Learning components without getting stuck at the live training steps - while also prompting them to register for and complete the live training steps. If you have effective ways of handling a similar scenario, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

    Hi Jackie

I'm afraid I don't have an answer to this but I do want to put my support behind it. We have a similar requirement at the moment and I'd love to hear if anyone has any ideas.

    Thanks

    Emily

    Hi Emily,

Thanks for reaching out and for your support!

Since writing this post, we've reduced the number of live training sessions we're requiring as part of this program from three to two. We've also revised the verbiage in the checkpoint being used for live training session attendance verification, to make it even more simple and clear for learners. This has helped; fewer learners are confused as to what the checkpoint is for. Still, I'd love to have the ability to set due dates on live training courses. If we did, we might consider adding these live training steps back to this program.

If you haven't done so already, you can submit a Bridge Feature Request asking for Bridge to consider an enhancement that would allow us to set due dates on live training courses. Hopefully, the more of us who request this feature, the more likely it is to be available in the future! :)
