How to Export and Analyse Usage Metrics in Bridge

Understanding how your learners engage with Bridge is key to measuring success, identifying trends, and making informed decisions about your training programmes. This guide outlines how to export and analyse usage data within Bridge to get a comprehensive view of your account health, from provisioned users to active engagement and learning activity.

We’ll walk through how to:

  • Use the data dump to assess provisioned users
  • Track monthly changes and user trends in Analytics
  • Analyse active users and measure engagement over time
  • Review enrolments across learning items
  • Evaluate learning content to ensure it's current and effective

Whether you're managing your account manually, via API, or through an integrated HRIS, these tools and filters will help you maintain clarity, spot gaps, and present clear usage reports to stakeholders.

Provisioned Users

Download All Data (also referred to as the Data Dump)

Use the Download all Data to download the users.csv file, which provides a full list of all users who have ever been provisioned into your Bridge account.

Notable columns include:

  • Created_at – The date the user was added to Bridge
  • Deleted_at – The date the user was removed or deactivated
  • Logged_in_at – The most recent login date
  • Sub_account_id – Identifies which account the user belongs to
    • 1 → root account
    • >1 → sub-accounts
  • Job_title – The job title associated with the user profile

Analytics

You can use Analytics to view the volume of provisioned users in your account on a month-by-month basis. Note that this model resets user counts each month and reflects users who have access to Bridge, regardless of whether they have logged in.

To download this report, navigate to:

Analytics > Usage Metrics

To view activity in your root account over the past year, apply the Date filter as “is in: the last 12 months” and leave the Account Name set to the root account (which is selected by default).

If you're using Bridge internally and it’s integrated with a source of truth (e.g., an HRIS via autoCSV), this data should reflect the natural ebbs and flows of your retention rates. If you're using Bridge externally and managing users manually or via API, this view may reveal a need to perform a User Cleanup.

To get a full picture of your account health, set the Date filter to “is in range: [start of Bridge contract] to [present day].”

You can pull this data across all root and sub-accounts by adjusting the Account Name filter, simply delete the root account option to default the report to “is: any value.”

You can export this report using the meatball menu located in the top-right corner of the Provisioned Users widget.

Be sure to select the CSV format and expand the advanced options to include “All results.”

The report will show the total users per month, including:

  • Provisioned
  • Added
  • Deleted

If you export the provisioned user data for the entire period, you can use a formula to calculate the average number of user changes made each month.

Active Users

Active users are those who have logged into Bridge at least once during the selected time period.

For a comprehensive view of your account’s health, we recommend setting the Date filter to “in range” from your contract start date to the present, allowing you to track year-over-year trends.

You can manually export this data to a spreadsheet and use the following formula to calculate the year-over-year percentage change:

These data extracts can then be visualised as charts for easier analysis.

Enrollments

Using the same method as above (or simultaneously) with the date range filters, you can gain a clear view of overall enrollments year over year. We recommend including all accounts by selecting the Account Name filter, unless you prefer to create separate reports or graphs for your root account and sub-accounts.

Be sure to set the filter Show Terminated User Enrollments to “Yes,” as many historical users may be terminated, but the goal is to capture all enrollments within the selected period.

After refreshing the report, scroll to the bottom of the Usage Metrics page to see the total enrollments by learning item for that date range.

Note that Journeys are not currently included on this page and would require separate analysis by extracting enrollments from each Journey individually, or estimating based on the groups assigned to those Journeys and the number of users in those groups.

For now, we will work with the data available in the four widgets.

Record the number of enrollments by learning item, then create a column to sum these values and another column to calculate the year-over-year change.

You can then turn this data into a graph to visualise enrollment trends over time.

Learning Items

Use the Download all Data / Data Dump to assess the relevance of your content by evaluating how much requires updating. There are four key files to review:

  • Course_templates
  • Programs
  • Tasks (Checkpoints)
  • Live_courses

It’s good practice to review courses annually and verify the most recent update date. You can create a pivot table grouped by year, filtering out any items that have been deleted, archived, or are unpublished.

We have a comprehensive content cleanup plan available here.
