How to Add Reporting Functionality to Roles Using Permissions

To provide additional users such as HR partners, department leads, or regional managers with access to reporting in Bridge, you can assign them a Custom Role with specific Permissions.

This guide walks through how to add reporting functionality to any role using Account Permissions in Bridge.

Step 1: Navigate to Account Permissions

To begin, go to:
Admin Menu > Account Settings > Users & Permissions > Roles & Permissions

Here, you can view existing roles or create new ones.

Step 2: Create or Select a Custom Role

You have two options:

  1. Edit an existing custom role (e.g. "Regional Lead")
  2. Create a new custom role by clicking “+ Add Role”

Note: Only Admins with permission to manage roles and permissions can create or edit roles.

Give the role a clear, descriptive name, especially if multiple users will be assigned to it (e.g. "US Managers - Reporting Only").

Step 3: Assign Reporting Permissions

Once you’re in the role editor, use the search bar or scroll to locate the reporting permissions. Here are the key permissions to consider:

🔍 Core Reporting Permissions

View Insights Dashboard

Allows access to the Insights tab with overview metrics.

View Advanced Analytics

Grants access to detailed dashboards, like Learner Progress, Programs, Goals & Objectives, and 1:1s.

Export Reports

Allows the user to export data from analytics dashboards.

👥 People-Scoped Reporting

To limit what a user sees in reports (e.g. only their region or team), use Scoping Filters like:

  • People in Group
  • People by Manager
  • Smart Group Access

This ensures users only see data relevant to their scope.

Step 4: Assign Users to the Role

Once your role has the right permissions:

  1. Go to Admin > Manage Users
  2. Search for and select the relevant user(s)
  3. Click Edit User
  4. Scroll to the Permissions section
  5. Add the new role from the dropdown

Tip: You can assign multiple roles to one user if needed.

Step 5: Test Access

To ensure the role is configured correctly:

  • Log in as a test user (if available)
  • Masquerade as the user
  • Or ask the assigned user to confirm what they can access under Analytics

They should see the tabs and dashboards that match the permissions you've set.

FAQs

Q: Can I give someone access to analytics but not admin tools?
Yes—roles are flexible. Just include only reporting permissions, and leave out anything related to course creation, user management, or system settings.

Q: What if someone only needs access to one dashboard?
Permissions aren’t granular to individual dashboards—but you can narrow their scope to reduce what data they see within any dashboard.

Q: Can reporting permissions be combined with Manager roles?
Yes—a manager can have additional custom roles for broader reporting beyond their direct reports.
