Time Spent = Time the Learner Spent OR Duration of Training?
I ran some reports in Advanced Analytics to show time spent, but I think it showed the amount of time the user was engaged in the training, and not the duration of the training. For example, someone showed as having spent 37 minutes in a 2-minute course. I guess that means it was up on her screen for that long. That's not useful data for me. I'd rather be able to report on the Duration of a course. Is there a way to do that?

Hi, Heidi Clark . You are correct that time spent is the time that the user was engaged in training. Yes, a user could keep a window open, which would add to this time (we have some time in course good-to-knows here).
In Advanced Analytics, you should be able to add the DURATION the Transcript report by going to Courses > Course Duration (In Minutes).
Another route is using the standard Analytics Transcript where you'd need to cross-reference the course_id from the export against the course_templates.csv from the data dump. Column C has “estimated_time" which is the duration provided in the course settings (if one is set).
Thanks for sending that link. Wow! So, with that in mind, I think there's an even stronger argument to be made for ignoring Time Spent and instead reporting the Duration.
That being said, I did add the Course Duration field to my “Duration” Look, but it's not showing any data.
Is there a corresponding duration field value for live training? Right now the only way for me to get this data is to manually calculate it and keep a separate spreadsheet that I later integrate into my Bridge reporting using v-lookup.
Finally, sometimes when choosing new fields to add in Advanced Analytics, I find multiple identical field names (e.g., Completion Date). How do we know which one to choose?
Hey, Heidi Clark .
The Live Training widget for “Live Trainings Sessions Progress" has a column for session duration (including a start, planned end, and actual end). You can then explore from that widget to go into AA (if needed, but if you are only needing duration, the standard Live Trainings Analytics will have that available a the session level).
Will that work?
There are a lot of databases available to view in AA, so it can get quite complex with repetitive terminology. When in doubt, I'd err on the side of reaching out to support chat.
YES! This is terrific. Can't believe I missed it, and so glad I reached out. Now I can take the Training ID and the Duration, remove all dupes and add as a separate lookup worksheet. Thank you, Stephanie!
Woohoo! Glad to hear that was successful, Heidi Clark .
